A little bit more about Ickle Pickles Day Nursery
Ickle Pickles is designed to provide a stimulating environment which will bring out the best in your child’s development. A caring, sharing, learning and fun environment is created and encouraged to ensure your child thrives as an individual.
Like you do at home, our staff treat every child as an individual. In addition, we prepare structured and stimulating days, which are fully documented and communicated back to you in real time through electronic learning journals, which track their development and celebrate their achievements. We also have a Special Education Needs coordinator on site, who work alongside parents and professionals to provide additional support where necessary.
To ensure continuity of care, we run a parent forum committee, so parents can liaise with our staff at our quarterly meetings. This is also a time we share up and coming events, achievements and any changes in the nursery world. We are also part of a collaboration of 11 nurseries in the area where we all meet and discuss the ever-changing nursery environment.

Our nursery is split into 4 rooms, with each room devoted to caring for a specific age range. We’ve designed our nursery so that children move between rooms when they are ready, not based on when their birthday is.
Here at Ickle Pickles our days are not rigidly structured but all rooms try to keep to a routine which the children can recognise and anticipate. A familiar routine helps to ensure that your child is happy and secure.
Babies: Ickle Beginners and Ickle Discoverers
We welcome babies from the age of three months into our nurturing setting. Here they take part in many multi-sensory experiences, all to boost their awareness of the world around them.
Our focus is on helping your baby develop and learn through play. There are soft areas to encourage babies to roll-around freely, which is particularly good for babies learning to sit and stand for the first time. Babies will have great fun delving into our treasure/interest baskets and finding new and exciting things to explore. There is also a black and white area to capture the baby’s attention. We also have a tranquil cot room allows babies to have a lie down when needed.
Toddlers: Ickle Explorers
There is a whole new world of activities to explore for the toddlers! Our excellent nursery staff support the children’s language development, encouraging plenty of imitation and conversation. Social development skills and peer relationships are bolstered through group activities, large scale floor-based games and during meal times.
We have found this is the age group where the children start showing an interest in potty training; our staff are skilled in this area and will work closely with parents to ensure continuity of routine.
Our staff will complete a two-year progress check on each child which helps identify any developmental needs and ensures that the children are learning in a balanced way.
Ickle Pickles supports families that are able to access 2-year-old grant funding.
Preschool: Ickle Adventurers
Children join preschool from 3 and gradually begin preparing for school. We provide a carefully planned programme of activities, providing free play within a slightly more structured environment.
We promote independence by encouraging self-selection at meal times, making choices, solving their own disputes, and involving the children in the planning of the day. We also run letters and sound sessions, promoting early reading and writing skills.
When the time does come for the children to continue their education journey in school, we are here to provide as much support as needed and liaise with local schools to ensure a smooth transition for all.
We support families in accessing the 15 hours and 30 hours Free Early Years Entitlement for their children in a flexible way
